With the Christmas Holidays coming to an end, many young people could be forgiven for feeling a bit down about returning to School. But for over 175 Beavers and Leaders from across Bath including those from Combe Down, the school holidays ended on a high with a trip to see Cinderella at the Theatre Royal, Bath.

Bath District booked out the entire Stalls area for the performance on Sunday evening, which starred Dani Harmer as Cinderella, Jon Monie as Buttons, and “Gavin and Stacey”‘s Melanie Walters as the Fairy Godmother. The Beavers cheered loudly when they received a special shout out from Buttons during the performance, while a Beaver Leader from Weston was even asked out on a date by one of the Ugly Sisters (which, surprisingly, he declined!)

The trip was attended by groups from across Bath District, and would not have been possible without around 40 Leaders and Parent Helpers volunteering their time on the day. A small team of volunteers worked hard in the weeks leading up to the pantomime to handle bookings and ensure that everyone who wanted to go had a ticket.

Alison Fishlock, one of the event organisers, said “The trip was part of our programme of district events for young people. Each year the district sets aside resources to allow us to offer these opportunities at a highly subsidised rate ensuring that they are affordable for all the young people in our district. Although the pantomime is now over, planning has already started for our District St Georges Day event which will include a day out for all of our members”

Alex, a Beaver from Bath, said “It was really funny. The best bit was Buttons throwing sweets at us!”
