Explorer Scouts Celebrate 10th Birthday

6 December 2015 written by : Ethan (Webmaster)

Last weekend Explorer Scouts from Phoenix and Blaze Units came together to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Phoenix Unit, based in Combe Down.

Since Explorer Scouts were started, just over ten years ago, they have been one of the fastest growing sections and a major success around the country. Locally the number of teenagers enjoying the fun, adventure and challenge of modern Scouting has almost tripled in that period. As Scouting strives to be a more Youth Led Movement, many of those Explorer Scouts are also Young Leaders with Beaver, Cub and Scout sections around the area.

To celebrate this milestone the Explorers, held a disco and campfire at Wellow Scout campsite, as this was one of the first sites used when Phoenix started 10 years ago. The 14-18 year olds brought their own party food and along with their guests, they were each given a limited edition badge to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Despite the cold weather the two Units had a great time and look forward to another ten years.
